Biography

Summary:

Kei is a self-taught artist and indie game developer specializing in stylized character design, anatomy-driven sculpting, and atmospheric storytelling.

How I started:

Hello, I’m Kei. I’m a self-taught artist and a solo indie game developer focused on character design, stylized anatomy, and game-ready assets.

I’m a self taught artist, originally specialized in traditional drawing. Art has always been a part of me. I’ve been drawing since I was 4 years old, mostly copying from series like Dragon Ball etc. Looking back, I could say a child’s imagination and image retention is incredible. I could draw characters like Goku at the time entirely from memory.

My early years were mainly focused on doing pencil art, eventually expanding in to colored pencils. However, I often find something was missing in my work - something that made the drawings look dull.

That’s when I discovered pen and ink and fell in love with it. It always gives this melancholic feel to it that really captivates me - it’s like a passive skill, embedded in each art; it’s truly amazing. I spent years in pen and ink and gradually shifted my approach from pure anime towards a more semi-realism approach.

Eventually, I realized there's so much more in art than just doing black and white illustrations. That realization and thirst for improvement started my journey into digital art — and later into game development and 3D creation.

It was not easy. Learning anatomy, environment design, and 3D pipelines has been a rabbit role. New knowledge never stops, new questions always pops-up, along with new problems to solve. To this day, I still approach everything as a continuous learning process.

What kind of art do I do:

  • Traditional pen and ink art illustration
  • Colored pencil artwork
  • Digital Illustrations
  • Character Designs for original characters
  • 3D Sculpting and character creation
  • Game-ready assets including retopology, rigging and animation

My work includes both traditional and digital mediums. Most, if not all, of these creations are mainly for my own game although I’m open to collaboration.

What is my artistic focus?:

I love melancholy. My designs and story choices for my illustrations mainly involve melancholic scenes, heavily reliant on emotions, and you’ll often find aristocratic designs in my art. While my work explores darker moods, it does not focus on gore or graphic violence.

My focus is pretty much On everything about:

  • Character sculpting/creation and design
  • Stylized anatomy
  • Indie game development
  • Game-ready assets
  • Weapon design
  • Environment design
  • Anime / Semi-realistic styles
